What is a crypto wallet and why do you need one?
A crypto wallet is an app that holds your cryptocurrency — think of it like a bank account, except you control it entirely, no bank involved. When CardVault sends your payout, it goes directly to your wallet address. You can't receive crypto without one.
The good news: getting a wallet is free, takes about 5 minutes, and doesn't require a credit card, bank account, or in most cases even an ID.
Which wallet should you choose?
For gift card trading, you mainly need a wallet that can receive USDT (TRC-20), Bitcoin, or Ethereum. Two options cover virtually every use case:
Trust Wallet — best if you want no sign-up. Download the app, create a wallet, done. No ID, no email, no account. Takes ~2 minutes. You must save your recovery phrase.
If you plan to cash out your payout to your bank account, start with Coinbase — it has built-in USD withdrawal. If you just want to receive and hold crypto, Trust Wallet is faster to set up.
Option A: Set up Coinbase (5 minutes)
Step 1: Download the app
Download Coinbase from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). You can also use coinbase.com on desktop.
Step 2: Create an account
Tap "Get Started," enter your email and create a password. Verify your email. Coinbase may ask for a phone number for two-factor authentication — this is optional but recommended.
Step 3: Find your wallet address
Once you're in the app: tap the "Assets" tab → search for the cryptocurrency you want to receive (e.g., USDT or Bitcoin) → tap it → tap "Receive." Your wallet address appears as a QR code and a string of letters and numbers below it.
Step 4: Copy the address
Tap "Copy" to copy the address to your clipboard. Never type a wallet address manually — one wrong character means funds sent to that address are permanently unrecoverable.
Step 5: Paste it into CardVault
On the CardVault trade form, paste the address into the "Wallet Address" field. Triple-check that the first and last few characters match what's in your Coinbase app.
Option B: Set up Trust Wallet (2 minutes)
Step 1: Download Trust Wallet
Search for "Trust Wallet" in the App Store or Google Play. It's published by Binance and is free. Do not download any Trust Wallet lookalikes — scam apps copy the name and icon.
Step 2: Create a new wallet
Tap "Create New Wallet." Trust Wallet generates a 12-word recovery phrase — a random sequence of common words like "apple gravity torch forest..." Write these 12 words down on paper. Store that paper somewhere safe.
This is critical: Your 12-word recovery phrase is the only way to recover your wallet if you lose your phone. Anyone who has these words has full access to your funds. Never share them, never enter them anywhere except Trust Wallet itself, and never store them digitally.
Step 3: Find your wallet address
Tap the coin you want to receive from the home screen. If USDT isn't visible, tap the top-right settings icon and search for it — make sure to enable "USDT (TRC20)" specifically. Tap "Receive" → your address appears.
Step 4: Copy and paste into CardVault
Tap "Copy" on the address, then paste it into the CardVault trade form wallet field.
The most important rule: always copy-paste your address
Crypto transactions are irreversible. Unlike a bank transfer, there's no "call the bank and reverse it." If you send crypto to the wrong address — whether by typing it incorrectly, copying the wrong thing, or entering an address for the wrong network — the funds are gone permanently.
The rule: always copy the address directly from your wallet app and paste it into the form. Never type it. Before submitting, compare the first 6 and last 6 characters of the address on your screen to what's in your wallet app.
Network matters: make sure you pick the right one
Different cryptocurrencies run on different networks, and sending to the wrong network results in lost funds. The most common issue involves USDT:
- CardVault sends USDT TRC-20 (Tron network) by default when you select USDT
- In Trust Wallet, make sure you copy the address for USDT TRC20, not USDT ERC20
- In Coinbase, the app handles this automatically — just copy your USDT address and Coinbase will accept TRC-20
If you're not sure, choose Coinbase — it automatically handles the network routing for common tokens.
You're ready to trade
Once you have your wallet address copied, the rest of the CardVault trade process takes about 90 seconds. Select your brand, enter the card value, confirm your payout amount, enter your card number and PIN, paste your wallet address, and submit.
